How to Choose Bathroom Theme Accessories

It is true to say that the majority of folks reckon that their bathroom to be nothing more than a room full of tile along with dazzling fixtures and fittings. Nonetheless, with a thorough reconsideration of how it could be, you could transform the space into something to be proud of. All that is needed is a little  imagination on your part as to how you would like it to look and the accessories required to bring that dream bathroom to fruition.

You need to decide on a theme for your bathroom as you would any other room in the house. Theming not only adds mood to the room but also your individual personality. Of course, there are literally hundreds of themes to select from including sea life, country style, tropical beaches and Mediterranean villas. Even So, as a good rule of thumb, you should select a theme that suits you and not one that somebody recommends. Ideally, go for a style that closely matches other deisgns around you home. By doing so, it will not be out of tune with the general theme of your home

If your bathroom is a little on the small side, you are not out of line with a lot of other homeowners since bathrooms in older houses were quite literally carved out of small unused closets. Even if you are one of the many unfortunate folks that have inherited a tiny bathroom, you can nevertheless decorate for color. Remember though, that with small bathrooms, less is often more. Your color scheme can be paint or wallpaper, but if the space is small, a neutral paint or wallpaper color can be used on either one wall, or as an accent on a chair rail. You can opt to paint a traditional white, and accentuate with color utilizing various decorating accessories such as framed photographic prints, shells, baskets, throw rugs, and window treatments to name but a few.

Warm rust shade of paint or paper work very well with plants in the bathroom. However, select plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can endure the various chemicals. Many plants just cannot take the mousse, hairspray, and perfumes that are used regularly in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will end up in your compost bin. If your bathroom is large enough, you can hang plants from the ceiling, or arrange them on the back of the toilet. Large garden style bathtubs have ample space on the rim of the tub to place tiny plants, and along with bath soaps and baskets, they look lovely.

Rugs and towels play a vital part when accessorizing your freshly decorated bathroom. For a touch of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep sumptuous throw rugs. However, when purchasing the rugs, consider the type of bathroom floor covering you are laying them on since they can pose a slipping danger when placed on a lino or tile floor. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternating colors. When mixed with a neutral backdrop, different textures work well to give an inviting, cozy warm feel to your bathroom.

You can jazz up your bathroom with ornamental towel racks and colorful towels as well. Towel racks are available in all manner of finishes including wood, bronze, silver and gold. If you want to match existing baskets and picture frames, you can paint or stain wooden racks in whatever color or shade you desire.

Good, practical and modern bathroom lighting is important too. The first consideration is for safety of course, but when the room is not being used, night lights can be left on and your cabinet tops could be employed for a small lamp. Lamps can match your theme and so can your nightlights. You can decorate them, or buy them already fixed up with your theme. Naturally, this all depends if you have sufficient counter space, but it is a wonderful decorating idea for a theme.

Lastly, take time and study a couple of decorating books on bathrooms. Look at their designs and see the many unusual ways to theme your bathroom. Utilize their designs for inspiration so your own imaginative juices will get flowing. It is okay to be uniquely you when decorating your bathroom, so go for it! You will never know what different themes are out there until you check them out when trying to decorate your bathroom at home.
